Ramadan Kareem wa Eid Mabrook!

Eid al Fitr "Night-In" Fundraising Event

As you may know, the Islamic month of Ramadan began recently.  Friends of Jordan is asking members and interested individuals to reflect on their experiences in Jordan and continue to serve the Jordanian people by participating in our Eid al Fitr "Night-In" Fundraising Event.

During the four weeks of Ramadan, take time out from your daily routine to reflect on how your relationship with the Jordanian people has enriched your life.  Maybe you served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Jordan, or maybe you have friends or family members who are living in Jordan or did so in the past.  Please set aside some time this month to write, e-mail, or call your former Jordanian counterparts and RPCV friends.

After Ramadan comes Eid al Fitr, which is scheduled to begin on Sunday, September 20th.  Eid lasts three days and is a time for celebration.  To mark the occasion, Friends of Jordan is throwing its first-ever Eid al Fitr "Night-In" Fundraiser.  Having a "Night-In" is a simple way to show your continued support of our organization and the people of Jordan.

Here's how to participate:
  • Saturday, September 19th, is our designated "Night-In".  Instead of going out to see a movie and have dinner out on the town, stay at home!  Use that time to remember Jordan.  Look at old pictures, read your old journal, call your host family, invite a friend over and make mansef, or do something else to reconnect with the Hashemite Kingdom (suggestions are welcome).  Make it fun, make it creative!
  • Donate the money that you would have spent on a Saturday night-out to Friends of Jordan for use in our Small Grants Program.  Suggested donation is $20 dollars, but any amount, large or small, is greatly appreciated!
  •  If you have prior obligations, you can always choose another date to participate at your convenience.
  • You can make your donation online by visiting our website at http://friendsofjordan.ipower.com/funding.htm.  Use the Click and Pledge Icon at the bottom right of the webpage to make your donation electronically.
  • Donations can also be sent in the form of a check by printing and mailing the donation form, downloadable at http://www.friendsofjordan.org/donat_form.pdf.

"Jordan Vignette" Essay Competition
To further celebrate Eid al Fitr, Friends of Jordan is having a "Jordan Vignette" Essay Competition.  To participate, write a short (300 words or fewer) essay on the subject of your favorite place in Jordan.  Essays should be sent as an MS Word attachment in an e-mail to fundraising@friendsofjordan.org.  Submissions must be sent by Wednesday, September 23rd.  The winner of the competition will have his/her essay published in the fall Friends of Jordan Newsletter!

In order to continue serving the people of Jordan through our popular and successful Small Grants Program, we hope to raise $500 between now and the end of the Eid.  Reaching this goal will enable Friends of Jordan to fund five projects in five deserving communities across Jordan.  Your donation helps sustain the strong bond that exists between the American and Jordanian peoples.
